In order to be successful as an online student, you need to ensure you have the proper equipment to complete your coursework.
An Internet connection is necessary to participate in discussions and assignments, access readings, transfer coursework, and receive feedback from your instructional associate and/or professor.
For web-based courses, students should have
a basic working knowledge of computers and Internet use as well as access to a computer with a broadband (DSL, cable, satellite) Internet connection. Copying and pasting, along with attaching/uploading documents for assignment submission, will also
be required. Other requirements for each course are listed in the university catalog as course prerequisites.
You are required to submit your assignments as Microsoft Word documents unless instructed otherwise. If you use another word processing program – such as Word Perfect (.wpd) or Microsoft Works (.wps) – you must know how to save these files as MS Word files by choosing “Save As” and selecting one of the approved formats in the “Save as type” drop-down menu. Know that some documents will not save properly in other formats. For example, a document produced in Word Perfect will not necessarily look the same when saved as a Microsoft Word or Rich Text Format file. Also, feedback to you on your documents will be in Microsoft Word; you must be able to open Microsoft Word.
