Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

Are you looking for something the LSUA Library does not have?  Is the book you need checked out?  Register for an interlibrary loan account (it’s free!!) and borrow the item from another library.

What is ILL?

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a library service that enables current students, faculty, and staff to obtain materials that are not available in the LSUA Library.
All first time users must create an account with our interlibrary loan system, ILLiad.  After creating an account, users can request materials, check the status of their requests, access electronically received articles, and view their request history.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Who can use ILL?
All LSUA faculty, staff, and students

What types of material can I borrow?

The most requested items are books, chapters from books, journal articles, and newspaper articles.  We will attempt to borrow whatever material has been requested.  However, some materials are harder to borrow.  These harder to borrow materials include textbooks, new items < 6 months old, rare/archival items, bound journal volumes, and microfilm.

Is there a charge to use ILL?

There is no charge to patrons unless materials are lost or damaged.

How do I submit a request?

Once you create an interlibrary loan account, you can submit requests to borrow materials.  To submit your request, log in to ILLiad and select the type of material you will be requesting (left hand side of screen, under “new request”).  Please provide as much information as possible on the request form to ensure the quickest turnaround time for your request.  Click “submit request” at the bottom of the page.

How long does it take to receive requested materials?

Articles are usually delivered electronically within 45 minutes to 1 week after the request is sent.

Books and other materials are usually received in 1-2 weeks after the request is sent.  The delivery time for books and other materials depends on the location and delivery method of the lending library.

Where do I pick up my materials?

Articles (and sometimes book chapters) are sent electronically unless otherwise indicated.  You will be notified by email when your article is available to view.  You can view your article by logging in to ILLiad and selecting the option “View-Electronically Received Articles.”

Books and other materials can be picked up from the circulation desk in the LSUA Library.  You will be notified by email when your item is available to be checked out.

How long can I keep the materials?

Articles have no due dates and are available to view for 30 days.

Books and other materials are usually loaned for 3 weeks.  The lending library sets the due date for loaned materials.  If you need to extend the due date on your item, you can initiate a renewal through your ILLiad account or you can contact the ILL department of the LSUA Library.  Please initiate renewals at least 3 days prior to the due date.  Books and other materials are to be returned to the circulation desk in the LSUA Library by the due date.
