Monica Aguilera will serve as Parliamentarian for 2020-2021 school year

The LSUA Student Government Association President, Monica Aguilera, was recently elected as the LSU Executive Council Representative to the Louisiana Board of Regent’s Council of Student Body Presidents (COSBP), and will serve as the COSBP Parliamentarian for the 2020-2021 school year.

The COSBP consists of student representatives from the Louisiana State University system, the University of Louisiana system, the Southern University system, and the Louisiana Community and Technical College system to support the advancement of educational and social interests in higher education.

During the 2019-2020 year, the COSBP supported legislation to expand dual enrollment courses at the high school level as well as Open Education Resources legislation, TOPS legislation and additional funding legislation. The council falls under the supervision of the Louisiana Board of Regents, established in 1974, which recently launched a new strategic master plan. The Board of Regents’ plan supports an overarching goal for 60% of working-age adults (24-65) in Louisiana to hold a degree or high value credential by 2030.

“This is another great opportunity to represent LSUA while also advocating for higher education. I am both thrilled and honored to serve as the LSU Student Representative and as the Parliamentarian for the Council of Student Body Presidents this upcoming year,” said Aguilera.

Monica is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Accounting with minors in Spanish and Psychology. She participated in student government at LSUA for two years prior to her election as president.
