LSUA is proud to officially dedicate the new Nursing Teaching Auditorium located in Coughlin Hall.

The complete renovation of the auditorium, which took place over the course of three months from May 15 to August 15, brought the room into the 21st century with two 90-inch monitors, a 16-foot projection screen, and power strips located beneath each of the new 286 seats.

Other improvements include new lighting, audio, paint, carpet, floors and storage cubbies. Additionally, a Giving Tree is located in the lobby where donors can contribute $100 for a leaf or $500 for an acorn to go towards the Alumni and Friends Association.

Built in 1977, the auditorium was in need of a major renovation as it lacked the technology needed for today’s rapidly changing teaching methods. Thanks to the generosity of the LSUA Foundation as well as anonymous donors, the renovation was completed for $487,000.

“The LSUA Foundation is delighted to have been able to make this project a reality for our students and our community. Many thanks to our donors and supporters,” says Melinda Anderson, executive director of the LSUA Foundation and Institutional Advancement.

The auditorium is located inside Coughlin Hall, which was completed in 1979. The building is named for Frank Hugh Coughlin, an engineer and vice-president of Louisiana Ice and Electric in 1938, and who became CLECO’s second president, a post he held for two decades, 1946-1966. Hugh Coughlin was a strong supporter of LSUA and nursing education.

In addition to housing the Department of Nursing, the building is also home to the Department of Allied Health.
