The Department of Psychology is one of the newest departments on Campus.  In the fall of 2018, it was named one of two academic departments chosen by on-campus students as a 5-star department. The Bachelor of Science in Psychology was recognized as one of the nation’s best Online Psychology Programs by Affordable Colleges Online.  LSUA’s program was ranked 38th in the US and is the highest-ranked online psychology program of any Louisiana school.  Whether in a traditional face-to-face or an online class, you will find yourself well-suited for many career paths.  Skills such as critical thinking and problem-solving underlie most psychology courses.  Common themes include mental and emotional health, human and animal behavior, research, and synthesis of information.  Psychology is a tremendously varied field.  A degree in psychology is good preparation for many professions. Our graduates succeed in various careers, and many further their education at a graduate degree level.  If you plan on working with others, regardless of profession, a psychology degree can get you where you want to go! 

The Department of Psychology offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and a Bachelor of General Studies with a concentration in Psychology. The department offers courses that provide either general education or elective coursework to support degrees other university departments offer. In addition to psychology courses, the department also offers courses in anthropology, social work, and sociology.

LSUA's Online Psychology Program Recognized as One of the Nation's Best

LSUA's online psychology program ranks 38th in the country.

Affordable Colleges Online has recognized the LSUA Psychology Department as offering one of the best online programs in the country.

In the ranking, LSUA comes in 38th in the U.S. and is the highest ranked online psychology program for any school in Louisiana.

“The Psychology faculty at LSUA have dedicated themselves to creating and offering high quality learning experiences in both an online and on-campus environment,” says Dr. Mary Boone Treuting, Chair of the Department of Psychology. “Our online degree is equal to our successful traditional degree in terms of expectations and knowledge gained. We are committed to providing a variety of psychology courses that will prepare our students for employment or continued education at a masters or doctoral level. We consider our students’ success our success and work to personalize the online experience at LSUA.”

Only accredited, public, and not-for-profit institutions with at least one online program were eligible for the rankings. Data included acceptance rates, cost of tuition, number of full-time students, and graduation rates.

“The Accelerated Online Degree programs at LSUA allow students flexibility to continue their education while meeting work, family, or other obligations. Students take two classes at a time for seven weeks, and then have a one-week break. Online students also have access to the same campus resources that on-ground students have including tutoring, advising, library access, and more,” says Teresa Seymour, Director of Distance Learning.
