History, Political Science, & Disaster Science

The Department of History, Political Science, and Disaster Science is responsible for developing and offering baccalaureate degree programs to students who wish to pursue educational opportunities in one of the department’s core disciplines. The programs offered by the department are of the highest quality and prepare students not only to take up a wide array of positions in the workforce but also to pursue graduate-level education if they so wish.

In addition, the department provides substantial general education support to programs offered by other Departments on LSUA’s campus. At present, the department offers general education courses in geography, history, and political science.

LSUA's Disaster Science Program Nationally Recognized

Sep 5, 2019, 15:56 PM
The Disaster Science and Emergency Management program at LSUA is young, but growing.

LSUA’s online Disaster Science and Emergency Management program has been rated by BestColleges.com as one of the best programs in the country for 2019.

The methodology in the ranking is based on statistical data and applied principles including academic quality, affordability, and online competency.

“This is quite an accomplishment. Our DESM program prepares students to understand how disasters happen and to take leading roles in managing emergencies for best outcomes, and we’re proud to be recognized for our quality,” says Dr. Kerry Ordes, LSUA professor.

Emergency management is a field dedicated to protecting life and property in the event of a natural or man-made catastrophe. LSUA first launched its Bachelor of General Studies with a concentration in Disaster Science and Emergency Management a few years ago.
