LSUA Celebrates Commencement for Its Largest Spring Class of 438 Graduates

ALEXANDRIA - LSU of Alexandria hosted family and friends on Thursday at the Rapides Parish Coliseum to celebrate the commencement of 438 graduates, LSUA’s largest graduating class to date.

LSUA Chancellor Paul Coreil, Ph.D., who served as mastery of ceremony, said, “Congratulations on completing your academic journey! The faculty and staff of LSUA are incredibly proud of you for reaching this significant milestone in your life. Graduating from college reflects the sacrifices, dedication, and hard work you have invested in your future. We celebrate those accomplishments and extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported you in achieving this incredible goal.”

Mary Leach Werner, Past Chair of the Louisiana State University Board of Supervisors, delivered the commencement address. Werner is also the Director and Vice President of The Sweet Lake Land & Oil Company and The North American Land Company. Based in Lake Charles, both companies engage in land management, oil and gas, farming, ranching, wildlife, and real estate operations. In addition to serving many non-profit boards, Werner was a member of the Committee of 100 Louisiana, dedicated to the state’s economic growth and development.

Additionally, the late Mary Boone Treuting, Ph.D., Dean Emeritus of the College of Social Sciences and Professor Emeritus of Psychology, was recognized for her outstanding contributions to LSUA as she posthumously received the prestigious Distinguished Service Award during the Spring 2024 Commencement ceremony. This esteemed accolade, the highest honor bestowed by the university, celebrates individuals whose dedication has greatly influenced LSUA's growth and progress. Treuting was honored for tirelessly advocating for academic excellence and community engagement. Her vision and dedication helped create academic programs that continue to empower students and faculty alike.

Treuting leaves behind a remarkable legacy as a treasured educator, mentor, and friend. Her passion for learning, unwavering dedication to students, and selfless service will forever inspire the LSUA community to strive for excellence and compassion.
