Pulitzer Prize-winning Author Robert Olen Butler to Speak in LSUA’s Cavanaugh Lecture Series

The Louisiana State University of Alexandria (LSUA) College of Liberal Arts, in partnership with the Cenla Authors Club, will welcome acclaimed author Robert Olen Butler as the featured speaker for the Cavanaugh Lecture Series on Wednesday, November 12. The lecture will take place in LSUA’s Coughlin Auditorium, beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Butler is renowned for his extensive literary career, having published sixteen novels, including the Pulitzer Prize-winning A Good Scent from a Strange Mountain. His literary achievements have earned prestigious honors such as the F. Scott Fitzgerald Award for Outstanding Achievement in American Literature, the Richard and Hinda Rosenthal Foundation Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, two National Magazine Awards in Fiction, and multiple Pushcart Prizes. Butler’s stories and articles have appeared widely in distinguished publications including The New Yorker, Esquire, Harper's, The Atlantic Monthly, and GQ.

In addition to his novels and short stories, Butler authored From Where You Dream, a fascinating collection of his lectures on creative writing. His versatility extends to screenwriting, with more than a decade of experience creating feature-length screenplays and teleplays for major studios and networks such as Twentieth Century Fox, Warner Bros., Disney, Universal Pictures, and HBO.

The lecture is free and open to the public.
