James and Catherine DeLee Establish Endowed Scholarship at LSUA
ALEXANDRIA, LA - Louisiana State University at Alexandria (LSUA) is proud to announce the establishment of the Dr. James DeLee and Catherine Puerta DeLee Endowed Scholarship, a generous gift that will support LSUA students for generations to come.

James DeLee, Ph.D., a respected former faculty member, dean, and interim chancellor of LSUA, began his career at the university in 1975 and served until 1990. A dedicated educator, Dr. DeLee was known not only for his academic leadership but also for his deep commitment to the LSUA community. In the 1970s, the DeLee family lived on campus, fostering a close connection to university life and enriching the experience of those around them.
"Dr. DeLee exemplified the very best of LSUA," said Paul Coreil, LSUA Chancellor. "He was a visionary educator, a devoted mentor, and a generous community leader. This endowed scholarship continues his legacy and reflects the DeLee family’s unwavering belief in the power of education."
DeLee and his wife, Catherine Puerta DeLee, shared a passion for learning and service. Together, they raised three children while making significant contributions to LSUA’s development and the Central Louisiana region. Through this scholarship, the DeLee family’s enduring dedication to student success will have a lasting impact.
The Dr. James DeLee and Catherine Puerta DeLee Endowed Scholarship will provide financial support to deserving LSUA students, helping to reduce barriers to higher education and enabling students to pursue their academic and career goals.
