Admission Requirements For Incoming Freshman

One goal of the Honors Experience is to meet the challenge of all students who are motivated to achieve academically. As such, the Honors Experience is open to students who have excelled in high school.

Admission Process

  1. To become an honors student, complete and submit an Honors Application to the Honors Experience Office.  
  2. Before a student may submit a contract for a course, he or she must have previously applied for and been accepted to the honors program.
  3. An eligible student should approach his or her course instructor beginning during preregistration through the 14th class day of the semester he or she wants to contract a course to discuss possibilities for the contract work. Note: Deadline to submit contract to the Department Chair for approval is the end of the 2nd week of class.
  4. The student should fill out the Honors Contract Approval Form, with the direction and approval of the course instructor. Submit the completed Honors Contract Approval Form, and the regular course syllabus to the appropriate department chair, who, once he or she approves the contract, will forward the signed contract to the Honors Experience Office. The Honors Experience Office will approve the contract no later than three days after the semester’s 14th day of classes.
  5. Once the contracts have been approved, students and instructors should maintain communication to ensure expectations are met and the honors contracts are successfully completed.
  6. At the end of the semester, the course instructor must complete and submit the Honor Contract Completion Report form to the Honors Experience Office.
  7. The student must complete and submit a Course Reflection form to the Honors Experience Office. These forms are due the last day of finals for review by the Honors Program Committee.

Maintaining Honors Status

All honors students' transcripts will be reviewed each summer by the Honors Program Committee. To maintain honors status, students must:

Honors students who fail to meet any of these requirements will be given one semester of probation to correct any deficiencies. Honor students who fail to meet requirements after a semester of probation will be dismissed from the program. The Honors Program Committee (or a subcommittee thereof) will make the final decision about probation and dismissals.
