LSUA Department of Business Administration Promoted to College of Business

The LSU Board of Supervisors approved a resolution Friday morning to promote LSUA’s Department of Business Administration to the College of Business.

The approval comes after record-setting growth for the department over the past year including a 10-year accreditation through the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). In addition to the accreditation announcement this past May, the department launched a new Bachelor of Science in Accounting in August 2019.

“The Board’s decision to elevate the department to a college level recognizes the high academic quality of the business and accounting programs at LSUA,” said Dr. Randall Dupont, Chair of the Department. “Students want a business program that is accredited, available online and on-campus, and affordable. LSUA has all three.”

The growth is also evidenced by the enrollment numbers. During the Fall 2019 semester, the department had 503 students enrolled, which marked the first time over 500. Additionally, this number reflects an 18 percent increase from Fall 2018.

It is expected that these numbers will continue to rise, particularly with the new partnership with LSU Online to offer more programs and better student support. LSUA’s Online Bachelor of Science in Business Administration has already been ranked Top 25 nationwide as one of the best online programs by Intelligent.com.

“With a growing need for business-conscious accountants and skilled entrepreneurs across CENLA, this expanded status of our Department of Business Administration to the LSUA College of Business will allow for stronger degree programs, increased enrollment and more relevant business-related career opportunities for both online and on-campus students across Central Louisiana,” said LSUA Chancellor Dr. Paul Coreil
