Mulder Scholarship Available to Students

Jan 11, 2019, 10:03 AM
Students may apply for the Mulder Scholarship.

The LSUA Foundation is pleased to announce the establishment of the Howard and Eloise Mulder Endowed Scholarship Fund at Louisiana State University of Alexandria.

This scholarship, the first of its kind at LSUA, is made possible by the generous donation made to the University from the Mulder estate.

Howard and Eloise Mulder were staunch supporters of LSUA. Both were founding members of the LSUA Foundation and served the Board of Directors for eight years. In 2001, both Howard and Eloise were honored for their service to LSUA by being awarded the LSUA Distinguished Service Award, the highest honor bestowed to anyone by the University.

Students receiving the scholarship will be known as a Mulder Scholar and the award will cover the full cost of a semester’s tuition, fees, books, and on-campus housing and meal plans incurred as a direct result of the recipient’s attendance at LSUA. The scholarship will be awarded to the student throughout their academic career at LSUA, not to exceed more than eight consecutive semesters.

“On behalf of the LSUA Foundation, we are thrilled to be able to honor exactly what Howard and Eloise wanted to do by providing excellent opportunities for our students,” said Melinda Anderson, LSUA assistant vice chancellor for institutional advancement and alumni relations and executive director of the LSUA Foundation. “This is an exciting time for the Foundation and our University.”

In this competitive process, the scholarship will be awarded to students who have shown exceptional academic success with an overall 3.5 GPA or better in high school and college and those enrolled full-time at LSUA. One incoming freshman and one continuing student will be awarded a scholarship.

“LSUA has never had an opportunity to award this level of scholarship to students. We believe that hard work pays off and are excited to name the first Mulder Scholars,” said Shelly Gill, dean of enrollment management.

Any interested, qualifying student must apply by visiting www.lsua.edu/mulderscholarship and completing the application for the Fall 2019 semester no later than February 15, 2019. Finalists will be invited to an on-campus interview with a selection committee on March 9, 2019.
