LSUA Athletic Department Restructuring

LSUA is restructuring its Athletic Department with the rugby and rodeo programs to operate as club sports.

The two programs both began in 2015 as club sports and then operated as varsity sports during the 2016-2017 academic year.

Athletic teams designated on the varsity level will include men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, women’s tennis, baseball, and softball. Club sports at the university will consist of rodeo, rugby, golf, and cheer.

Though club sports require fund raising by each individual team, the university is committed to all club sports and their continued success.

“In holding true to our commitment of accountability and operating with fiscal responsibility, the Department of Athletics must sometimes make difficult decisions. After much deliberation and analysis alongside university administration, it has been deemed in the best interest of LSUA for the rugby and rodeo programs to operate as club sports,” said Director of Athletics Adam Jonson. “LSUA Athletics remains committed to its core values of academic excellence, accountability, affinity, and achievement.”

While the move of rugby and rodeo to club sports status is effective for the Fall 2017 semester, the university will continue to honor the athletic scholarships of current rugby and rodeo team members through their graduation.
