LSUA Announces Highest Enrollment in School History

by Sarah Black | Sep 13, 2016
LSUA once again sees record enrollment.

LSU of Alexandria continues to experience all time highs in enrollment numbers.

For Fall 2016, LSUA has enrolled the largest number of students in school history. This semester, a record 3,277 students are taking classes at LSUA. This represents a 5.57 percent increase in enrollment from Fall 2015 and a 46.8 percent increase since Fall 2013.

Additionally, the university is experiencing the largest first-time freshmen enrollment. This semester, 529 first-time freshmen are on campus. This number is up from 508 in Fall 2015. Fall 2016 marks the second fall semester in a row where the university registered its largest freshmen class.

In response to the largest enrollment in school history, LSUA is also experiencing the highest number of academic credit hours in which students are enrolled. Currently, students are taking 34,901 credit hours. That number is up from 33,011 credit hours in 2015. Credit hours are closely tied to tuition and fees and have resulted in the largest amount of revenue ever produced by the university. These funds help offset cuts in state funding and have allowed LSUA to become one of the most financially stable institutions in Louisiana.

LSUA is also experiencing record growth in 100 percent online enrollment. There are currently 235 students enrolled in complete online academic programs. This is up from just 92 in Fall 2015 and represents a 64 percent increase in enrollment.

“I am very proud of the dedicated faculty and staff members who work day in and day out to bring high quality students to LSUA. This is just the beginning of a bright future for our university,” says LSUA Interim Chancellor Dr. Haywood Joiner.

Other enrollment numbers include the greatest number of students enrolling in the Honors Program with 51, largest number of dual enrolled students with 633, and record number of minority students at 1,037.

Additionally, LSUA continues to bring students to Alexandria from around the world. This semester, LSUA enrolled 96 international students. That represents a 20 percent increase from the prior fall semester.

LSUA also has a record number of student athletes, as well as students participating in club sports.

LSUA reports enrollment on the 14th day of the semester.
