New Women's Basketball Coach Added to Staff

LSUA is proud to announce Bob Austin as the new Women's Basketball Head Coach.

The athletic department at LSUA continues to expand with the hiring of a new coach.  Bob Austin is set to start November 1 as the new women’s head basketball coach. 

Austin is currently an Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Southeastern Louisiana.  He has served in his present position since 2012.  Before moving to Southeastern, Austin coached under Jennifer Graf at Northwestern State as an Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach from 2009 – 2012.  While at Northwestern, he also served as an assistant coach to the men’s team from 2007 – 2009 and was a graduate assistant.  Austin began his career as an assistant coach for both the women’s and men’s teams at Otero Junior College in La Junta, Colorado. 

In addition to his coaching resume, Austin has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Alaska, Anchorage and a Master’s of Science in Sports Administration from Northwestern State in Natchitoches.  

Women’s basketball has been a part of LSUA in the past.  Both men’s and women’s basketball were introduced in 1978 as club sports.  Donald F. Barker was head coach of the women’s team which compiled an 11-11 record in its first year.

    Students who want to accelerate their college experience can begin taking fast-track courses this fall at the Learning Center for Rapides Parish. The four- and eight-week courses will be offered by LSU Alexandria.

    To better assist students in preparation for fall 2013, LSU Alexandria’s office of financial aid has extended its hours of operation.
