LSUA has been recognized by U.S. News and World Report in the publication's Best Colleges, 2014 Edition.

Louisiana State University at Alexandria is proud to announce it has been recognized by U.S. News and World Report for the second year in a row.

Today, the publication named LSUA as one of the top schools in the nation in terms of the lightest debt load incurred by students upon graduation.

LSUA is second on the list of least amount of debt for national liberal arts colleges, coming in only behind Berea College (KY).

According to U.S. News and World Report, 62% of LSUA students graduate with debt.  The average amount of that debt is $11,501.

“LSUA works to provide quality education at a reasonable price.  We set up our degree programs and offer our courses in such a way that students can complete a bachelor’s degree in four years.  In addition, our Financial Aid Department works individually with students to provide them with as many options as possible for making college affordable,” said Barbara Hatfield, LSUA’s provost and vice chancellor for academic and student affairs.

LSUA is one of only three Louisiana schools to be named to the least amount of debt listing.  However, LSUA places well ahead of both the University of New Orleans and Louisiana Tech University with average debt amounts of those schools being $18,271 and $18,555, respectively.

“We are very happy that U.S. News and World Report has recognized us for the second year in a row.  We are committed to making college accessible, achievable, and affordable,” said Hatfield.

The data used by the publication includes loans taken out by students from their colleges, from private financial institutions and from federal, state and local governments.
