Students who want to accelerate their college experience can begin taking fast-track courses this fall at the Learning Center for Rapides Parish. The four- and eight-week courses will be offered by LSU Alexandria.

The courses will be offered in a blended format, meaning students will meet for class weekly but will also continue their learning experience in an online environment. LSU Alexandria has offered accelerated courses in a similar format during the summer, but this is the first time the institution has offered them during a regular semester.

“We recognize that there are students who want to attend college but have other obligations that prevent them from attending on a typical semester schedule,” said Dr. Barbara Hatfield, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at LSU Alexandria. “We also understand how valuable a college education truly is. This blended format will make postsecondary education more achievable by making it accessible to more students.”

“The Learning Center is excited to have the opportunity to host these courses,” said Heather Poole, executive director of the facility. “The goals of the facility include providing enhanced access to postsecondary education in central Louisiana and meeting the needs of the region’s workforce. I believe offering courses in this blended format will be beneficial, not only to the students but to LSUA and the Learning Center.”

This fall, LSUA will offer eight-week classes and four-week classes at the Learning Center. The courses are all general education classes. The four-week classes include Intro to Fine Arts, Intro to Business, Public Speaking, and Western Civilization I. The four eight-week classes are College Algebra, General Statistics, English Composition, and English Composition II.

Eight-week classes will meet on Mondays at the Learning Center. The four-week classes will meet on Tuesdays.

To participate, students must first be accepted for admission to LSUA. For information on applying for admission, call 318-445-3672 or 318-473-6417 or visit www.lsua.edu. #
