(240102) Bachelor of General Studies with Concentration in Visual & Performing Arts

BGS in Visual and Performing Arts – the Bachelor of General Studies with a concentration in Visual and Performing Arts offers students at LSUA the opportunity to work in excellent studio facilities dedicated to art students with great equipment.  Students may use Mac computers with Adobe software, French easels (for landscape painting outdoors), Nikon digital cameras, tripods, and lighting equipment. Our fully equipped studio spaces include a Mac lab, photography darkroom, ceramics studio, and a painting and drawing studio.  Students who are interested in Theater have the opportunity not only to take acting classes and theater production classes, but also to act in theatrical plays and musicals that are produced both fall and spring semesters.

Career paths for graduates with a BGS in Visual and Performing Arts - studio artist, art educator, designer, art therapist, arts administrator.

Admission Requirements

Students must meet all requirements for admission to the university found on our Applying for Admissions site. The Bachelor of General Studies program has no separate or special admission requirements.

Degree Requirements

  1. Students must complete all of the requirements pertaining to baccalaureate degrees as specified on our Academic Requirements site.
  2. Students must complete at least 45 semester hours at the 3000 level or above and at least 15 semester hours at the 4000 level.
  3. Students must declare a 27-hour Area of Concentration and two 12-hour Enrichment Blocks during their first semester of enrollment in the program. Their initial selection of both the Area of Concentration and Enrichment Blocks can be changed subsequently.
  4. Of the 27 hours required by the Area of Concentration, nine must be at the 3000-4000 level.
  5. Students are required to make a “C” or higher in all courses applied toward the Area of Concentration.
