Position Details

Director of Continuing Education and Community Outreach (CECO)

Louisiana State University of Alexandria invites applications for the position of Director of Continuing Education and Community Outreach (CECO). The Director is a senior line administrator with primary oversight responsibility for the activities and employees within CECO. This position reports to the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Enrollment. The Director promotes and facilitates the highest-quality credit and non-credit professional and continuing education, workforce development training, and other lifelong learning opportunities.

Candidate must have considerable experience in delivery of continuing professional education in fields such as medicine, nursing, and allied health; law; banking, finance, and investment; real estate and insurance; and accounting, via traditional in-class presentations as well as distance learning. This experience must include market analysis of demand; working effectively with faculty and vendors, who provide courses and programs for continuing education credit; interfacing with professional organizations, which require continuing education for licensure, credentialing, and other purposes; course and program selection, marketing, delivery, assessment, and continuous improvement; and recordkeeping The Director of CECO will also be charged with providing training and education for business/industry (at LSUA and at the worksite) to address employer needs for employees in a knowledge based economy. Such education and training may include but not be limited to marketing and sales, supervising, management, safety and health compliance, risk management, effective use of computer programs, written and oral communications, budgeting, preventing sexual harassment in the workplace, and other areas requested by employers.

Requirements
• A master's degree from an accredited institution of higher education. Doctorate preferred.
• Three years of experience in administration including oversight of credit-bearing and noncredit-bearing outreach. Knowledge of University policies and procedures; knowledge of academic programs; ability to build collaborative programs with multiple stakeholders including business and industry, university colleges, campuses, area secondary schools, and area communities; ability to present to large groups and individuals.
• Experience in using distance learning to help in the delivery educational training.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Proven capacity as an innovative, entrepreneurial leader, and a compelling advocate for lifelong learning.
• Proven experience in and personal commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusiveness among faculty, staff, and students.

LSUA employs four different types of personnel on campus.

  • Faculty Members - Members of the academic staff holding rank of instructor or above and equivalent ranks. Faculty may be 9 month or 12 month employees and they may teach and/or do research.
  • Professional Employees - Administrative officers and professional staff that are generally exempt from the provisions of the State Civil Service System. This category is formerly referred to as Unclassified Employees.
  • Classified Employees - Employees in positions covered by the provisions of Louisiana State Civil Service System.
  • Other Academic Employees - Part-time members of the academic staff or full-time members of instructional or research staff below the rank of Instructor. Examples are part-time instructors, teaching or research associates, library associates, lecturers, etc.
