Position Details

Honors Program Director - available to current Faculty, only

In preparation for reinstating the Honors Program Fall 2014, LSUA is seeking a Director for the Honors Program. The Program Director, who will report to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, will:

• Develop and implement a comprehensive plan for recruiting, admitting, and mentoring incoming Honors students;
• Organize the activities of the Honors Curriculum Committee;
• Coordinate activities with Student Support and Enrollment Management;
• Work with the department chairs to develop a list of possible Honors courses for each of the university's departments;
• Oversee the budget;
• Manage and oversee the student governance of the Honors Program, and its various activities, including peer mentoring events and social media;
• Assist faculty in the development of honors contracts;
• Oversee service learning opportunities;
• Serve as a liaison to the national organization (NCHC);
• Develop and implement an assessment plan for the Honors Program, and
• Perform other duties assigned by the Provost.

Occasional but infrequent deviation from regular weekday schedule will be expected. Bearing in mind these and related responsibilities, the Program Director will be working on multiple projects at any given time and interfacing with numerous constituencies on campus and beyond. The successful candidate will therefore possess exceptional organizational abilities, outstanding interpersonal skills, and a consistently positive disposition. This position may be compensated with course release time and/or additional compensation.

Qualifications

Required:
Master’s degree
Ability to navigate databases and computer programs
Superior listening and critical thinking skills
Strong interpersonal/human relations skills
Excellent verbal and written communication
Preferred:
Doctoral degree
Professional or undergraduate experience with an Honors College or Program
Some budget management/accounting experience
Knowledge of LSU of Alexandria programs and admissions requirements

LSUA employs four different types of personnel on campus.

  • Faculty Members - Members of the academic staff holding rank of instructor or above and equivalent ranks. Faculty may be 9 month or 12 month employees and they may teach and/or do research.
  • Professional Employees - Administrative officers and professional staff that are generally exempt from the provisions of the State Civil Service System. This category is formerly referred to as Unclassified Employees.
  • Classified Employees - Employees in positions covered by the provisions of Louisiana State Civil Service System.
  • Other Academic Employees - Part-time members of the academic staff or full-time members of instructional or research staff below the rank of Instructor. Examples are part-time instructors, teaching or research associates, library associates, lecturers, etc.
