Position Details

Chair of the Education Department

Louisiana State University of Alexandria (LSUA) is seeking applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Education. The department offers a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, a Minor in Education Leading to Secondary Education Certification, and an Associate of Science in the Care and Development of Young Children. In addition, it offers post-baccalaureate alternative certification programs in elementary, secondary, and health and physical education. The department also offers a Bachelor of General Studies with a kinesiology concentration and is working toward adding a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. The Department Chair serves as the chief academic officer for the department and is responsible for academic leadership and administrative oversight of the academic programs, faculty, staff, and budget in addition to assuring compliance with accreditation and Louisiana Department of Education standards.

Qualifications: Applicants should have an earned doctorate or terminal degree in one of the Department of Education fields or a related discipline, a minimum of three years of full-time experience in a position with budgetary and supervisory authority, and at least five years of teaching experience at the college or university level. Additional experience teaching at the pre-K—12 level is preferred. The successful candidate should have a strong interest in expanding and enhancing the department’s programs, the ability to work collaboratively, and experience with CAEP/NCATE accreditation and be able to interact with campus departments, participate in scholarly activities, and serve as a community liaison for the department and LSUA.”

LSUA employs four different types of personnel on campus.

  • Faculty Members - Members of the academic staff holding rank of instructor or above and equivalent ranks. Faculty may be 9 month or 12 month employees and they may teach and/or do research.
  • Professional Employees - Administrative officers and professional staff that are generally exempt from the provisions of the State Civil Service System. This category is formerly referred to as Unclassified Employees.
  • Classified Employees - Employees in positions covered by the provisions of Louisiana State Civil Service System.
  • Other Academic Employees - Part-time members of the academic staff or full-time members of instructional or research staff below the rank of Instructor. Examples are part-time instructors, teaching or research associates, library associates, lecturers, etc.
