Position Details

AMoA Museum Educator and Preparator

The Museum Educator must have experience with lesson planning, curriculum development and teaching art, preferably in K-12 public education. This person must be comfortable working with a variety of audiences in various settings. This position must do evaluation and administrative work related to their programs. This educator position also includes some exhibition preparation duties such as art handling, label making, packing and shipping. This is a full time position that has flexible hours as it includes some evenings and Saturdays.

Duties for museum educator include outreach activities, including by not limited to in school and after school programs and other outreach activities including offsite workshops and publicity functions. Other duties include creation and implementation of the Second Saturday Art Activity, tours, assisting in the coordination of the Youth Art Month Festival and docent training. In addition, each educator is responsible for the administration, implementation and evaluation of his or her programs. It will occasionally be necessary for the educator to assist or substitute for art education programs facilitated by the other art educator.

This full-time position pays $29,700 with benefits.

LSUA employs four different types of personnel on campus.

  • Faculty Members - Members of the academic staff holding rank of instructor or above and equivalent ranks. Faculty may be 9 month or 12 month employees and they may teach and/or do research.
  • Professional Employees - Administrative officers and professional staff that are generally exempt from the provisions of the State Civil Service System. This category is formerly referred to as Unclassified Employees.
  • Classified Employees - Employees in positions covered by the provisions of Louisiana State Civil Service System.
  • Other Academic Employees - Part-time members of the academic staff or full-time members of instructional or research staff below the rank of Instructor. Examples are part-time instructors, teaching or research associates, library associates, lecturers, etc.
