Ms. LSUA

Ms. LSU Alexandria Pageant offers a quality scholarship competition for female students. The winner of the Ms. LSU Alexandria Pageant earns a $1000 Chancellor's Scholarship. The First Runner-Up will receive a Chancellor's Scholarship in the amount of $250 per semester for a total of $500 for the year.

It is the mission of the Ms. LSU Alexandria Pageant committee to encourage students' academic and professional development by requiring that the contestants maintain a 2.5 grade point average, attend workshops on professional interviewing techniques and interface with a chosen faculty member (mentor) who will help them speak effectively concerning their chosen platform topic.

2011 Ms. LSUA, Amanda Austin

Amanda Elizabeth Austin, a sophomore business major from Simmesport, was crowned Ms. LSUA at the 51st annual Ms. LSUA Pageant, announced pageant director Kathryn Wimmert. Austin will receive a $1,000 scholarship and represent LSU Alexandria at various official functions in the next academic year. Austin also won the Scholastic Achievement Award.

Jennifer McPherson Burkhardt, a junior nursing major from Pineville, was chosen first runner-up and will receive a $500 scholarship. Burkhardt also won the People’s Choice Award.

D’Audrea Lafayette Peoples, a freshman Elementary Education major from Mansfield, was selected second runner-up. She also won the Top Ad Sales Award. Kayla Marie Aymond, a sophomore nursing major from Hessmer was chosen as Ms. Congeniality. Lillian Marie Hare, a senior nursing major from Alexandria, won the Director’s Award.

Contestants compete in casual and formal wear categories in addition to participating in a pre-pageant interview with a three-member panel of judges from the community. The Ms. LSUA Pageant has been held every year since 1961.

Shelby Lynne Martin, a sophomore nursing major from Anacoco, is the outgoing Ms. LSUA.
