LSUA Event Calendar

LSUA Cavanaugh Lecture Series

  • Dates: 10 – 10 Apr, 2014
  • Time: 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM
  • Where: Alexandria Museum of Art

LSUA English Professor Dr. Seth Bovey will discuss how director Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained film is more than a postmodern mash-up of the Spaghetti Western and the Blaxploitation film - it is also a parody of the slave narrative that uses the conventions of the Italian Western (including its soundtrack music and the persona of Django) to create a revenge story that exploits the feelings most Americans have toward slavery and racism in the South.

The event is free and open to the public.  The event takes place at the Alexandria Museum of Art in downtown.
