“12 Years a Slave” tells the story of Solomon Northup, a free man from New York, who was kidnapped and sold into slavery.  Northup worked in central Louisiana and helped construct the Epps House which now stands on the campus of LSUA and is being turned into a permanent exhibit.  While under construction, Northup befriended the architect who agreed to notify Northup’s family and friends in New York of his plight.  That notification led to Northup eventually earning back his freedom.

Epps House: Solomon Northup’s Gateway to Freedom is opening to the public with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, November 14, at 11:00am.  It will then be open on a weekly basis Thursday-Sunday and noon until 4:00pm as well as by appointment by calling 446-3672.  It is free of charge.
