The Behavioral and Social Sciences Department of LSUA and the National World War II Museum along with other sponsors and co-sponsors will be hosing the Alexandria Airborne Celebration on Friday, November 15, at 6:00pm in the Brumfield Caffey Annex on the campus of LSUA.
This year’s theme is Rendezvous with Destiny: Vietnam with Thomas Czekanski, Director of Collections at the National World War II Museum as the keynote speaker. He will be speaking on the development of the Air Assault forces due to the lack of roads in the China Burma India Theater in order to deliver both troops and supplies. This development led to the first use of military helicopters and the Air Assault forces continued growth through subsequent campaigns, especially by the 101st Airborne in Vietnam.
This is an annual event which celebrates the birth of the US Army’s Airborne Divisions at Camp Claiborne in Alexandria.
There will be a question and answer period and a reception following the presentation.
The event is free and open to the public.
