Armwood named Ms. LSU Alexandria 2014
Kayla Nicole Armwood, a junior kinesiology major from Jackson, MS, was crowned Ms. LSU Alexandria at the 54th annual pageant on Saturday, April 26. She will receive a $1,500 scholarship and represent LSU Alexandria at official university functions during the 2014-2015 academic year.
Armwood, whose pageant platform topic was, “Chronic Kidney Disease: The Story of My Life” is a member of the LSU Alexandria Soccer team and plays intramural sports at LSU Alexandria. Ms. Armwood also captured the awards for Ms. Congeniality and Ms. Photogenic.
Elizabeth Felix, a sophomore mathematics major from Forest Hill was chosen first runner-up and will receive a $1000 scholarship. She also captured the Top Ad Sales and People’s Choice awards.
Bethani Taylor McDowell, a freshman elementary education major from Winnfield, was selected second runner-up and will receive a $500 scholarship. Brittany Marie LaGrange, a junior biology major from Marksville won the Scholastic Achievement Award. Kayla Lyn Tyler, a sophomore Psychology major from Breaux, won the Director’s Award.
Contestants competed in casual and formal wear categories and participated in a pre-pageant interview with a three-member panel of judges from the community. The Ms. LSUA Pageant, which is open to any female student, has been held annually since 1961. Kathryn Wimmert, an academic counselor in the Office of Student Support, was the pageant director.
Kaitlyn Gayle Nichols, a sophomore biology major from Gulfport, Ms, who served as Ms. LSU Alexandria 2013-2014, passed the crown to Armwood.
