Academics
As Louisiana State at Alexandria continues to grow, look for new degree programs as well as new concentration areas in the Bachelor of General Studies. LSUA currently offers bachelor’s degrees in Communication Studies, English, History, Biology, Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Elementary Education, Mathematics, Nursing, and Psychology. Students who wish to teach at the middle or high school levels can achieve certification through their major and a minor in Education. There are new General Studies Concentrations in Elder Care Administration, Health Sciences, Humanities, and Visual & Performing Arts. In addition to an associate of science and an associate of arts, LSUA offers associate degrees in the Care and Development of Young Children, Clinical Laboratory Science, Nursing, and Radiologic Technology. LSUA offers alternative teacher certifications and post baccalaureate certificates through the Department of Education, and a certificate in Pharmacy Technology.
Accreditation
Louisiana State University at Alexandria is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097; telephone number 404-679-4501) to award associate and baccalaureate degrees. The University also maintains accreditation through the National League of Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), the Joint Commission on Radiologic Technology, the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP), the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS), and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
