Position Details

Assistant Professor of Biology – Two Positions

Louisiana State University at Alexandria is seeking to fill two tenure-track, nine-month positions as Assistant Professor of Biology beginning August 2014.

The first position is in Animal Physiology. Candidates must be able to teach an upper-level course in comparative anatomy of the vertebrates as well as introductory Human Anatomy and Physiology. The candidate’s area of specialty should be in something other than endocrinology. A Ph.D. in Physiology or closely-related field is required.

The second position is in Vertebrate Ecology. Candidates should be willing and able to team teach courses in Ecology and Natural History of the Vertebrates and should have research interests in field ecology. A Ph.D. in Ecology, Zoology, or closely-related field is required.

The successful candidates will have opportunities to develop upper-level courses in their areas of expertise, and will be expected to develop a research program involving undergraduate students, advise students, engage in scholarly activity, and perform departmental, university, and community service. A sincere interest in teaching undergraduates is required. Teaching experience at the college level is preferred.

LSUA employs four different types of personnel on campus.

  • Faculty Members - Members of the academic staff holding rank of instructor or above and equivalent ranks. Faculty may be 9 month or 12 month employees and they may teach and/or do research.
  • Professional Employees - Administrative officers and professional staff that are generally exempt from the provisions of the State Civil Service System. This category is formerly referred to as Unclassified Employees.
  • Classified Employees - Employees in positions covered by the provisions of Louisiana State Civil Service System.
  • Other Academic Employees - Part-time members of the academic staff or full-time members of instructional or research staff below the rank of Instructor. Examples are part-time instructors, teaching or research associates, library associates, lecturers, etc.
